Monthly USCF Rated July 28

Dear Chess Enthusiasts,

The Rochester Chess Club will be holding its monthly USCF rated tournament July 28. Any one with a USCF membership is welcome to enter. The tournament
will be a 4 round swiss pairing. All tournament information can be found below. I’d like to thank Dennis Mays, for his help in making this tournament possible.

Tournament Layout:
4 round Swiss pairings, G/60 with a 5 second increment. There will be 4 sections. An Open Section , U1500 Section, U1200 section, and U800 section.

(If a low turn out the tournament director will combined sections Accordingly.)

SITE: Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, SW corner of 3rd Ave. SW & 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN. Free street parking or in the Republic Parking Ramp (11
Center Street W, located 5 blocks NE of the Harwick Building). Enter the Harwick building through the east entrance on 3rd Ave SW.

DATE/TIME: July 28, registration 9:00am – 9:45am.

Round Start times:

Round 1, 10:00 am.
Round 2, 1:00 pm.
Round 3, 3:30 pm.
Round 4, 6:00 pm.

EF: $15.00 (Adult) & $10.00 (Youth)

($5.00 off if you are a Rochester Chess Club member)

PRIZES: Will be determined on the number of entries.


You can reserve your place in the Tournament by sending e-mails to confirming your interest to play. Or you can register on site July 28 @ 9:00 – 9:45am.

(Note: When registering please state, whether you intend to play in the Open, U1500, U1200, U800.)

USCF Rated Tournament

Here are the upcoming events at the Rochester Chess Club.

At The Club

This week: Jack Fulsom and Rob Newshutz are wrapping up their chess camps today and tomorrow night at the Harwick.

Tuesday, 7/24: We are having a casual night at the chess club (free!).  Come anytime and play games for fun.  Last meeting we had some instruction, blitz chess, and a team trade-off game.

Saturday, 7/28: The popular monthly rated tournaments are back!  Jack Fulsom will be directing a Game/60 tournament that is USCF rated.  More info on the Monthly Rated event page.  If you plan on playing send Jack an email to help him prepare for the turnout.  Sets and clocks are provided.  If you don’t have a USCF membership you can sign up at the site, or in advance at


On we are starting two new events. is free to join and is one of the best chess sites on the net.  After you join request to be added to our Rochester Chess Club group.  Please let me know if you have questions about joining.

Event 1)  Vote Chess!  We will all vote on moves to be played against an opposing team.  24 hours per move.

Event 2) Team Match!  We are paired up on boards against an opposing team.  3 days per move, vacation time available.
