Tonight we have a G/30 d5 USCF tournament starting at 7 PM. Players will break into groups of 4 directed by Dennis. The cost is $2 for non-members and $1 for members.
Saturday the details are confirmed for a chess camp at the Harwick Cafeteria led by Matt Jensen. Details below. Cost is $30 for the Basic Camp (half day) and $50 for the Intensive Study (full day). The Basic camp will have 2 levels (1000-1400 and <1000). Please email Matt if you’re interested in attending and not on the list.
Matt has been playing chess since age 5 and coaching for over 15 years. He was a three time K-3 state champion and a three time K-12 state champion. Matt was able to reach the title of USCF Expert at age 13 and has experience helping students of all ages and skill levels improve their chess game.
This year’s camp will be divided into a basic and intensive study sections with a series of mini-sessions throughout the day. The theme of the camp is Play for the Initiative! We will learn how to create threats that your opponent can’t ignore. Playing with the initiative encourages your opponent to make mistakes and allows you to easily create dangerous attacks!
Basic – Intended for kids under age 12 or ratings below 1400
Intensive Study – A longer day of instruction for players 1400-2000
