Hello Rochester Chess Club Members,

March is rapidly approaching, and with that comes the clubs slow chess tournament. Which is also a Grand Prix tournament. If you would like to play in the tournament. Please let Jack Fulsom (jfulsom@charter.net) know by February 29. You can send  your registrations to him  at the following email address: jfulsom@charter.net or let him know  at one of the next club meetings. The following are the tournament details.

March Grand Prix Slow Chess Tournament

Time Control: G/90; D5

Byes: 2 half point byes are allowed. Except for the final round. (TD must be notified of the need for by the for the beginning of a round. And not the day of.)

Rounds: 5 to be played every Tuesday.

CLUB MEMBERSHIPS:

Club members please check your memberships to make sure that they are current. All TCCL team members must have a current club membership in order to participate in the TCCL. Please remember that non-club members will be charged a fee to play in all club tournaments. Tournament fees for nonmembers range from $3. 00 – $5. 00 per non-club member.

RCTC Youth Chess Tournament, February 20, 2016

 

Please mark your calendars for the RCTC Youth Chess Tournament at RCTC on Saturday, February 20, 2016.

 

Format: Four-round Swiss combined individual, team tournament. You do not have to be on a team to compete. The tournament will be divided in to 3 sections based on chess playing experience:

 

Novice: Inexperienced chess players, primarily for middle school students (using clocks and recording moves are optional)

Reserve: High school JV players

Premier: High school varsity players and RCTC students.
Time Control:  Game/30 plus a 5-second delay for the Reserve and Premier sections only.
Registration: 11:00 – 11:15 AM, individuals arriving after 11:15 AM will be given a bye the first round and paired in the second round. Half-point byes are available for any round.

 

Schedule:

11:00 – 11:15 AM registration

11:30 – 12:30 Round 1

12:30 -1:00 PM Pizza break

1:00 – 2:00 PM Round 2

2:15 – 3:15 PM Round 3

3:30 – 4:30 PM Round 4

4:30 – 4:45 PM Awards

 

The novices will start the first round at 11:30 and subsequent rounds will begin shortly after the previous round ends.

Entry fee of $5 will be paid by a grant from Mayo Clinic for those who preregister!

Send by email the name, grade, school, section, and bye requests to Dennis Mays by Feb 18, 5 PM for free entry.

 

Directions: Rochester Community and Technical College, 851 30th Ave SE, student cafeteria.

Park in the main lot on the East side of the main campus. Enter in the Hill Theater entrance, it’s closest to the lot. Stay on the first floor, walk left to a corner and go right. Proceed straight until there is a hallway on your left. Note the restrooms and elevator. Take the elevator to the third floor and it opens into the cafeteria.
