Century Chess Club Pushes Hard at State

The Century chess club gave it all they had in the 2012 Minnesota State Chess Association state tournment but just fell short in the final round of attaining a trophy. Century settled for sixth place of 18 teams after going into the round in fifth place.
Participating at state were Michael Ekker, Enoc Tan, Gregory Nathan, Henry Newschutz, Ted Woolner, and Rory Li. The team had a total of 12 points 0.5 points behind the fifth place Rochester Lourdes team.

Rochester John Adams Middle School Finishes 4th at State!
The John Adams chess club improved on last year’s fifth place finish at the Minnesota State Chess Association Tournament by completing a strong final round and taking fourth out of 11 junior high/middle school teams. Over 80 players competed in the K-9 division.
Man Luong (8th) placed 16th out of the top 20 and received a trophy. Nhi Huynh (7th) went undefeated (4 wins and 2 draws) to attain 5 out of 6 possible points. She captured fourth place individual and was the top female player in the division. Rounding out the JA team were Darren & Josh Anes Dy Quiangco (8th).
The club members now focus their sights on the United States Chess Federation Senior National Tournament which will be April 13-15 in Minneapolis. Look for the results to be posted on this website.
