Chess and Cheesesteak Today, Thursday, December 29, 4 – 7 PM


Come for the chess. Stay for the cheesesteaks. On Thursdays from 4-7 p.m., Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks is back to hosting casual chess at its one-of-a-kind shop at 187 18th Ave SW (in the small strip mall across the Frontage Road from the McDonald’s on 2nd St. SW). Stop in for casual chess. That is all you need to do. Free Rochester Winter Scholastic Chess Tournament (Gr. K-8), January 14.

Let’s Play Chess!

Rochester Chess and Rochester Community Education invite elementary and middle school students to join us for for a full day of chess on January 14, 9 AM -2 PM at the Northrup Community Center.. Students can expect a supportive environment with instruction from older students and experienced chess players. Students will be paired with others of similar skill level, and they do not need previous experience participating in a chess event.

Students must bring a lunch from home or eat free pizza provided by Rochester Chess.

All Experience Levels Welcome

Any student in grades K-8 may participate. Participants will play in one of two sections: 

Unrated/Novice: For students who are just starting out in chess

Advanced: Tournament results will be rated by the United States Chess Federation (USCF). Players in the Advanced section will be required to record their moves.
