The President’s Cup

An RCTC Math Department and Rochester Chess Club Community Chess Tournament

Saturday, December 16, 10 AM – 5 PM in the RCTC Cafeteria

RCTC will be hosting the President’s Cup, a community chess tournament, on Saturday, December 16, 2017. RCTC and Student Life, respectively, have generously provided the space and chess equipment for this event. Additional funding is provided by a youth enrichment grant to Rochester Chess from the Mayo Clinic Office of Community Relations. The tournament has three sections, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. All sections are unrated. Intermediate and Advanced players will be required to record their games. Instruction will be provided if needed. All participants will play 4 games (no elimination). Participants may request up to two ½-point byes for rounds they cannot play.
Time Control:  Each player gets 30 minutes to make all their moves. Players must record the moves of the game. Instruction provided.

Registration: Registration: online registration (preferred) at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsJ0cmA9BWX6P5iMnlT-HgAvA2wCmrkuATVwPIRUXFVxN2LQ/viewform?usp=sf_link or onsite from 10:00-10:30 AM.  Players registering after 10:30 may receive a 1/2-point bye for round 1. Play starts at 11:00 AM.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and monitor the playing site. Please let us know if you can assist. Experienced players are encouraged to attend to help coach our developing players.

Instruction: Experienced chess coaches will provide game analysis for players who record the moves of their games.

Registration Fee:  Free entry for all and there will be prizes! RCTC pottery instructor, Robert Banker, has made some beautiful trophies.

Directions: Park in the main lot at the East side of the main campus. Enter in the Hill Theater entrance, it’s closest to the lot. Follow signs to restrooms and an elevator. Ride up to the third floor and it opens into the cafeteria.

Celebrate the fun day of community chess thanks to our sponsors: Rochester Chess Club and Rochester Community and Technical College. A special thankyou goes to RCTC President Mary Davenport.
