CHESS AND CHEESESTEAK, THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 4 – 6 PM
Come for the chess. Stay for the cheesesteaks. On Thursdays from 4-6 p.m., Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks is hosting casual chess at its one-of-a-kind shop at 187 18th Ave SW (in the small strip mall across the Frontage Road from the McDonald’s on 2nd St. SW). Stop in for casual chess and have fun! CHESS CLASS BY NATIONAL MASTER MATT JENSEN: CALCULATION TRAINING – A MINI-SERIES.
National Master Matt Jensen and Daniel Garrett will be leading a chess class on “Calculation Training – a Mini-Series” on Tuesday, January 17, 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building. The class will occur weekly on Tuesdays throughout January. The class is free for current members of Rochester Chess. Tuition is $10 per attendee per class for nonmembers. REMINDER TO REGISTER FOR THE MINI CHESS CAMP FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS ON FEBRUARY 11, 9 AM – NOON
Lead instructors: Justin Ricker and Dennis Mays. Participants will be divided into groups based on their skill level.
Approximate Camp Schedule
- 9 AM – 9:30 Tactics!
- 9:30 – 10:30 Advanced players play one game (G/30 with notation). Coaches will help players analyze their games afterwards. Intermediate and Novice Participants will play 2 games (G/15)
- 10:30 – 11:15 Deep game analysis of their annotated game with a chess coach
- 11:15– 12:00 PM Endgames you must know.
Wrap-up
