ROCHESTER CHESS IS SEEKING CHESS COACHES
Interest in chess is exploding worldwide and in our community, especially among youth. Unfortunately, there are not enough opportunities in our community for students to learn chess and improve at the game. Rochester Chess is aiming to fill that gap by teaching chess in several community schools. In order to accomplish this goal, Rochester Chess is seeking individuals to coach chess mainly in the middle and primary schools. We are applying for funding to teach chess in elementary schools (Gage and Riverside), in middle schools (John Adams and Dakota) and in the Boys and Girls Club. Already, individual donors have pledged $5,000 to support this program. Lead coaches will be compensated for their time ($30+/hour). Assistant coaches are needed as well ($20+/hour). Parents or teachers to help the lead coach are also needed. Chess club advisors are awarded a $500 stipend to host the school club meetings.
Experienced chess coaches and others will be holding a chess coaching workshop on Tuesday, August 23, 7 PM at the club. We will be sharing best practices for coaching and brainstorming on ways to bring chess to more students in Rochester. Let me know if you are interested in helping. If you would like more information, please send me an email: dennismays101@gmail.com.
