SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CHESS COMMUNITY: PLAY IN THE 2023 ROCHESTER OPEN ON JULY 8 & 9!

Are you enjoying chess activities at the local Rochester chess club? If yes, we are encouraging you to support Rochester Chess by playing in the Rochester Open on July 8 and 9 in the Mayo Civic Center. It is our biggest event of the year which brings in chess players from around the area including, masters from Rochester and other communities. Last year, 121 players participated in the event.

There are plenty of prizes ($3,000 guaranteed) in the Open, U1900, U1500, and U1000 sections to make it worth your while. Club member George Paulik took home the $300 first prize in the U1900 section last year.

FINAL STANDINGS IN THE 2023 SPRING SCHOLASTIC SWISS

The 2023 Spring Scholastic Swiss was held on Saturday, May 13 in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria. Forty-six players participated in two sections. Half of the students were playing in their-first ever chess tournament.

Congratulations to Joshua Wang and Ansh Singh for tying for first place with scores of 4-0 in the Novice section. Four players tied for second place with 3 points. Kellogg middle school took home the first place team trophy.

Fifth-grader Wilson Wang won the USCF-rated section with a perfect 4-0 score. Congratulations Wilson. Your chess future is bright! Six players tied for second – seventh places. Dakota middle school won the first place team trophy.

The cross tables below are listed in order of final score and then in alphabetical order (not tiebreak order). Players who have USCF ratings are listed in order of their rating. W = win (e.g. W17 = win against player number 17 in the final standings), L = loss, D = draw, nnnn = no USCF rating. 2023 SPRING RAPID, USCF-RATED, BEGINS ON MAY 16.

USCF-rated 2023 Spring Rapid, divided into two or more-8 player sections based on rating, will begin on Tuesday, May 16. Three rated games of G/15 + 10 sec increment will be played on Tuesday evenings in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building Cafeteria. Games begin at 6:30 PM. Register by 6:15 PM on May 16.
