ROCHESTER CHESS WILL MEET ON TUESDAY, JULY 27, 6 – 9 PM, IN THE MAYO CLINIC HARWICK SOUTH CAFETERIA, 201 THIRD AVENUE SW.
The meeting will feature the 4th and final round of the USCF-rated tournament. Other attendees can play casual chess games and solve chess puzzles in small study groups. Attendees must be free of COVID symptoms and wear a mask.
Park on the street for free after 5 PM or in one of the nearby parking ramps. Enter the first sliding door on the east side of the Harwick building. Press the red button to summon Mayo security. Tell them you are there for chess. They will unlock the second sliding door for you to enter. Take an immediate left turn and the cafeteria is straight ahead of you.
Reminder: Register for the chess tournaments that will begin on Tuesday, July 6, if you have not done so already.
Rochester Chess will hold a United States Chess Federation (USCF)-rated in person (OTB) 4-round swiss tournament. One game per week will be played at a slow time control, G/60+30. The first game will be on Tuesday, July 6. Each side has 60 minutes to make all of their moves and receives an additional 30 seconds after each move from move 1. A current membership in the USCF is required for registration and participation. You can join USCF or renew here: https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess. Membership in the Rochester Chess Club is not required at this time to participate. Up to 2 half point byes are available in rounds 1-3. Games start at 6:30 PM. Other times and dates can be arranged by the participants as long as they let me know. Entry fee: $5 (pay at the door or “donate” to Rochester Chess online). Rochester Chess will be hosting a 4-round swiss tournament for novice and improving players (children and adults) who want more practice before playing in a USCF-rated tournament. Two rounds (games) each will be played on July 6, and July 13 starting at 6:15 PM. Registration is free but advanced registration is strongly recommended: Registration form. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
In addition to these tournaments, the club will be open for individuals to play casual games of chess.
Winners in the 2021 Spring Slow Chess Tournament
Congratulations to George Berg for winning the 2021 Spring slow with a perfect 4-0 score! A field of 14 players competed by playing one game per week (G/60+30) for 4 weeks. Congratulations to Al Yanes, Isaac Sellon, and Paul Pagel for tying for 2nd place with scores of 3-1.
