International Master John Bartholomew has moved back to Minnesota and is coaching and playing chess full-time now. I added a link to his page in the links section. If you are interested in lessons he is highly recommended by everyone I have talked to. John is the highest rated player in the state and has been studying with many of the top Grandmasters in the country.

Chess Book Giveaway #2 at the RCC
Tonight at chess club is casual night with a possible tournament. Schedule link. This will be the first night that we use the new RCC Club Ladder! It’s our club’s new rating system that does not affect United States Chess Federation ratings. As long as you are a club member you can play RCC rated games.

Monthly USCF Rated July 28
Dear Chess Enthusiasts,
The Rochester Chess Club will be holding its monthly USCF rated tournament July 28. Any one with a USCF membership is welcome to enter. The tournament
will be a 4 round swiss pairing. All tournament information can be found below. I’d like to thank Dennis Mays, for his help in making this tournament possible.
Tournament Layout:
4 round Swiss pairings, G/60 with a 5 second increment. There will be 4 sections. An Open Section , U1500 Section, U1200 section, and U800 section.
(If a low turn out the tournament director will combined sections Accordingly.)
SITE: Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, SW corner of 3rd Ave. SW & 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN. Free street parking or in the Republic Parking Ramp (11
Center Street W, located 5 blocks NE of the Harwick Building). Enter the Harwick building through the east entrance on 3rd Ave SW.
DATE/TIME: July 28, registration 9:00am – 9:45am.
Round Start times:
Round 1, 10:00 am.
Round 2, 1:00 pm.
Round 3, 3:30 pm.
Round 4, 6:00 pm.
EF: $15.00 (Adult) & $10.00 (Youth)
($5.00 off if you are a Rochester Chess Club member)
PRIZES: Will be determined on the number of entries.
