Casual Chess – Tuesday 5/29

The Rochester Chess Club is having a casual chess night on Tuesday at the Harwick South Cafeteria.  Doors will open at 6 PM.  In addition to casual play, I’ll be there to help analyze games for anyone who is interested.  You can email me games in advance or bring them on Tuesday.  We will have a demonstration board there to encourage group discussion.

Hope to see you on Tuesday!

Matt

Weekend Grandmaster Chess Events

World Chess Championship

Boris Gelfand won game 7 with the white pieces and is now +1 with 5 games remaining.  This should make the games that much more exciting the rest of the way as Anand needs to play for a win.  You can view the analysis from Rob Newshutz and the Chessbase report for more information.

US Chess Championship

After beating the then leader Gata Kamsky yesterday, Hikaru Nakamura won today’s game to win the 2012 US Championship.  On the women’s side there will be a playoff between Krush and Zatonskih

Our First Tuesday Night

The Rochester Chess Club had about 15 players in attendance at the Harwick South Cafeteria.  A few new members were added, some casual games were played, and eight players played in the rated quick chess tournament directed by Jack Fulsom.  Thanks also goes to Dennis Mays who greeted arriving members at the door and helped with setup.  We are going to have a GAME/8 tournament at our next meeting – Tuesday, May 22nd.

Here are the results from last night:
