RCC Meeting 5/11

Dear Chess players,

The Rochester Chess Club will start meeting on Tuesdays beginning May 15 we will meet at the Harwick cafeteria in downtown Rochester.   Meeting times will be 6 PM to 9 PM.  We will also be holding rated tournaments of G/26,  D/3 EF: $10.  These tournaments will be quad events.   We at the Rochester chess club hope that everyone likes the new change.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.

The Rochester Chess Club is meeting, Friday May 11, 2012 at the Peace United Church of Christ! There will be no meeting Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the B’nai Israel Synagogue.

 

On an announced Friday date, the RCC meets in room B007 of the Peace United Church of Christ, 1503 2 Ave NE, Rochester, and is open around 6:45 PM.

The suggested donation for use of the church room is $1 for club members, $2 otherwise (waived for first time visitors.) All donations go directly to the church. There is a phone in the church hall on the first floor. Local calls are free. In case one needs to contact someone at the club, the number is 282-4987, but there is no guarantee that the phone will be heard ringing in the basement.

Please remember that the church is a place of worship, and members are expected to be respectful and on good behavior.

On an announced Saturday date, the RCC meets at the B’nai Israel Synagogue, 150 7th Ave SW, Rochester, and is open around 7:00 PM.

There is a parking lot which has plenty of parking space after regular Mayo hours. Enter on the ground level off of 7th Ave; there is a heated sidewalk leading to the entrance. Go down the stairs on your left as you enter, or take the elevator. The suggested donation for use of the playing space in the synagogue is $1. All donations go directly to the synagogue.

 

Please remember that the synagogue is a place of worship, and members are expected to be respectful and on good behavior!

There is generally a small tournament which starts at ~7:30 PM. The usual tourney entry fee is $3 for adult RCC members (cheap!) and $2 for teen-or-younger RCC members (cheaper!) Add $1 to your EF if you are nEF a club member. (Not as cheap!) There are usually two prize sections, Adult and Youth. The number of rounds in the tourney (and prizes) are based on the number of entries.

Monthly Rated Tournament 5/26 (cancelled)

Hello Chessplayers,

The Rochester Chess Club will be holding its monthly USCF rated tournament May 26. Any one with a USCF membership is welcome to enter. The tournament will be a 4 round swiss pairing. All tournament information can be found below. I’d like to thank Dennis Mays, for his help in making this tournament possible.

Tournament Layout:
4 round Swiss pairings, G/60 with a 5 second increment. There will be 5 sections. An Open Section , U1500 Section, U1200 section, U800 section, and a Novice Section.

(If a low turn out the tournament director will combined sections Accordingly.)
The Novice Section will be unrated G/60.

SITE: Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, SW corner of 3rd Ave. SW & 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN. Free street parking or in the Republic Parking Ramp (11 Center Street W, located 5 blocks NE of the Harwick Building). Enter the
Harwick building through the east entrance on 3rd Ave SW.

 

DATE/TIME:  May 26,  registration 9:00am – 9:45am.
Round Start times:
Round 1, 10:00 am.
Round 2, 1:00 pm.
Round 3, 3:30 pm.
Round 4, 6:00 pm.
EF: $14.00 (Adult) & $9.00 (Youth)
($4.00 off if you are a Rochester Chess Club member)

 

PRIZES: Will be determined on the number of entries.
Novice Section Prize: Will be a 1 year USCF membership for first place.

 

REGISTRATION:
You can reserve your place in the Tournament by sending e-mails to Jfulsom@charter.net confirming your interest to play. If reserving a place by e-mail all entry fees must be paid by May 26. Or you can register on site rate 26 @ 9:00 – 9:45am.

(Note: When registering please state, whether you intend to play in the Open, U1500, U1200, U800, or Novice section.)
