2020 March Slow Begins Tomorrow, March 3. One G/60+30 Game Per Night

The 2020 March Slow begins tomorrow. One slow USCF-rated game per week with the option of taking up to 2 half-point byes in any round. Registration online by March 3 at noon is free or $5 at the site.  March Slow Registration Games begin at 6:30 PM.

Site: Mayo Clinic Superior Drive Support Center, South Cafeteria, 3050 Superior Dr NW, Rochester, MN. Park in the employee lot. Enter the building through the southeast employee entrance. Press the red intercom button and tell Mayo security you are there for chess. Follow the signs to the south cafeteria. Allow extra time to find the playing site. Clocks will start at 6:30 PM. Matt Jensen and Piyush Mukherjee tie for 1st place in the Quick Tournament

We had a great turnout for Matt Jensen’s Quick Tournament tonight. Twenty players went at it for 3 rounds. In the end, Matt and Piyush Mukherjee tied for 1st place with perfect 3-0 scores. Soren Wiedmann finished in 3rd place with 2.5 points. Five tied for 4th place. We plan to hold a similar event in March.

Matt Jensen’s USCF-Rated Quick Chess Tournament (G/15; d5) Tuesday, February 25!

Matt Jensen is organizing a USCF-rated quick tournament (G/15; d5) in 6-player sections according rating on February 25. The alternative is a mini-swiss with accelerated pairings in rounds 1 and 2 to minimize pairing mismatches. At least 2 masters have registered so far! Congratulations to Henry Lange for winning the 2020 Rochester Amateur Chess Championship with a perfect 4-0 score on February 22 at RCTC. Eric Gatz won the intermediate section (U1000) with a perfect 4-0 score. More details will follow.
