LOTS OF CHESS THIS WEEK: DECEMBER 1 – 7.

Tuesday, December 2: 

Free chess class for adults and children by Coach Lucas, 5 – 6 PM at the Harwick.

Round 1 of the Winter Slow Swiss: Four rounds of Game/60+30s increment in a Swiss format will be played on Tuesdays, December 2, 9, 16 and January 6. Membership in USCF is required (https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess). Games start at 6:30 PM. Half-point byes are available for schedule conflicts. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each section. TD Matt Markland will be playing and directing. Casual chess and kids chess 6 – 9 PM.

Thursday, December 4:

Saturday, December 6:

Free scholastic (K12) USCF-rated swiss tournament. Directed by Matt Markland. Four rounds of G/30, d5. Coaches will be available to analyze games between rounds. Parent volunteers are needed to help set up the site and to monitor the door. Contact Dennis Mays (dennismays101@gmail.com) for more information. 

Trophies/medals will be awarded to the top finishers in each section.

Site: Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, 205 Third Ave. SW, Rochester, MN.

Four rounds of Game/30, d5s in a Swiss Style format will be played. All participants will play 4 games.  No elimination. ROCHESTER CHESS: NOVEMBER 10-16

News: In cooperation with MSCA, Coach Bob Dettmer and the Eastview High School Chess Team hosted the Free Apple Valley Scholastic Chess Tournament on November 8 at Eastview High School. Sarah Jackson and Jenny Bourne expertly directed the event. The tournament drew 133 enthusiastic participants, including 10 students from Rochester Century High School (6) and Lourdes High School (4). Noteworthy were the results of Century High School Sophomore Joshua Wang who finished in 2nd place in the open section with a score of 4-1 and Century High School Sophomore Yuhan Gu who finished in first place in the U700 section with a perfect score of 5-0!
