New Chess Club Champion!
Club Championship: Congratulations to the new 2012 Rochester Chess Club champion, Kevin Gaustad! Kevin won first place in a field of 7, scoring 2.5 out of a possible 3 points. Kevin also won the championship in 1996 and has been one of the strongest players at the club year after year. Here is a list of past champions. Maor Locker won the RCC youth champion award. Here is a link to the RCC Closed 2012 crosstable.
We will be posting games from the tournament once we have them ready.

Last meeting: We had a 3 round swiss tournament last night, G/15 d5. The winner was George Berg scoring 2.5/3. We are starting to use the club ladder now which you can find at the website.
George Berg gained 91 points with his performance and Jacob Pintos starts his rating off at 1448 after 3 games! Club ladder.

Rochester Players in Duluth

The first Twin Ports Open was a huge success with over 85 participants! In the Open section, GM Alex Yermolinsky and IM John Bartholomew tied for first with 4.5/5. Matt Jensen from Rochester scored 3 points in a tie for 12th place. Dennis Mays had a strong performance with 2.5 points, scoring 50% in his three games against experts!
In the Reserve section Ben Isbell won first place with a perfect score of 5/5. Rochester players Maor Leker Locker and Paul Kinion had 3 and 2 points, respectively.
It was a fun event and I hope it becomes an annual tradition. USCF Crosstable for the event.
RCC Schedule
Tonight we have an unrated theme tournament at the club. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
Also coming up is the Rochester Closed Championship on August 24-25. Win this event and you will find your name on the list of RCC champions!
There is no book drawing for tonight, but going forward we are going to have more books to giveaway. We plan to enter everyone who attends the club meeting in the drawing next time.
Chess Book Giveaway #2 at the RCC
Tonight at chess club is casual night with a possible tournament. Schedule link. This will be the first night that we use the new RCC Club Ladder! It’s our club’s new rating system that does not affect United States Chess Federation ratings. As long as you are a club member you can play RCC rated games.
