2020 Slow Tournament Round 3 is Tomorrow, Jan 21 at a New Location!
Due to renovations in the Harwick Cafeterias, round 3 of the 2020 Winter Slow Tournament, tomorrow, January 21, 6:30 – 9:30 PM, will be in the Mayo Clinic Support Center South Cafeteria, 3050 Superior Dr NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Park in the employee lot. Enter the building through the south employee entrance. Press the red intercom button and tell Mayo security you are there for chess. Follow the signs to the south cafeteria. Allow extra time to find the playing site. Clocks will start at 6:30 PM. Call/text me at 507-254-6809 if you have questions.
Enclosed are the pairings for the swiss. We are looking for a house person to play an extra game.
Round 2 of the 2020 Winter Slow Will be Held on January 14 at the Mayo Harwick
Round 2 of 4 in the USCF-rated Winter Slow (g/60+30s) will be tomorrow, January 14 in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building. Games start at 6:30 PM. It is not too late to join the Swiss Section which has 15 players so far. Just send me an email by noon on Tuesday and I will enter you in the tournament with a half-point bye for round 1. Round 2 of the quads will also be held tomorrow.
Reminder: Rochester Chess Mini-Camp for Youth and Adults is tomorrow, January 11, 9 AM – Noon. There is still room!

Rochester Chess Mini-Camp for Youth and Adults

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria, 203 3rd Avenue SW
About the lead instructors:
Chess coaches Rob Newshutz and Roy Truelson have over 30 years of combined experience teaching chess to adults and children. Experienced chess coaches Grant Jones and Dennis Mays will be assisting. Participants will be divided in groups based on their chess playing experience.
Approximate Camp Schedule
8:45 – 9:00: Check-in
9:00 – 9:30: Tactics!
9:30 – 10:30: Players will be paired for G/30 games with notation. Coaches will help players analyze their games afterwards.
10:30 – 11:30: Game analysis
11:30 – 12:00: Important endgames
