May 14: Rapid Quads or Mini-Swiss and Game Analysis at RCTC, 6:30 – 9:30 PM

Tonight’s meeting at RCTC, 6:30 – 9:30 PM, will feature Unrated Quads or a Mini-Swiss and game analysis. Bring your score sheets to share the glory and pain of your recent games. 

Directions: Park in the main lot on the East side of the main campus. Enter through the Hill Theater/East Hall entrance; it’s closest to the lot. Follow signs first to restrooms and then to an elevator. Ride up to the third floor and it opens into the cafeteria. Thanks to Paul Kinion and the RCTC math department for providing the space and chess equipment.

Rochester Advanced Chess Class for Students and Adults Rated 1000 – 1800

Topic: Chess Strategy – Part 2

When: Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 6:30 – 9:30 PM

Where: President’s room on the 4th floor above the RCTC cafeteria

Lead instructor: Jovana Milosevic, a Woman FIDE Master with two Woman International Master Norms, is from Serbia but currently living in Rochester. She has played competitively and studied chess for 13 years. Some of her greatest achievements include winning first place in Balkan Chess Championship and South Eastern Europe Chess Championship twice and second place in European Rapid Chess Championship. Also, she won first place in Serbia Youth Chess Championship and second place in Serbia Woman Chess Championship. Jovana is the 2019 MN Women State Champion. She has experience in coaching players with a FIDE rating below 2000 and is now teaching chess in three elementary schools in Rochester, MN.

Master Milosevic will guide you through three model games with the following strategic themes: 1) pieces out of play, 2) strong and weak squares, and 3) open files.

April Slow Quads have been posted by USCF

The April Slow Quads have been posted: http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?201904306672-14582752 Twenty chess players participated in the 5 quads. The quad winners were Matt Jensen (3-0 score), Michael Kern (2.5-0.5) , Henry Lange (2-1), Dan Ochoa 2.5-0.5, and Eddie Ahn (3-0). Next up on May 7 is casual chess and an advanced class led by Woman Master Jovana Milosevic.
