Minnesota Class Championships Are Coming to Rochester on November 11-12, 2023!

For the first time ever, the Minnesota Class Championships will be played outside of the Twin Cities.

Rochester Chess is partnering with the Minnesota State Chess Association to host the event in the Mayo Civic Center, 30 Civic Center Dr SE, Rochester.

Compete with your peers and vie for the coveted title of Class Champion!

Winner of Master/Expert section qualifies for 2024 State Championship playoffs!

Winner of Class A qualifies for 2024 State U2000 playoffs!

4 Round Swiss: USCF rated (membership req.)

⌛️ Time Control: G/90 +30s

Rounds: Saturday 11am, 4pm & Sunday 9:30am, 2pm 🕚️

Byes: max two ½ point byes, any rounds, declared before R3

FALL CLASSICAL SWISS BEGINS ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 29, AT 6:30 PM. REGISTRATION ONLINE IS REQUIRED. PLEASE REGISTER SOON.

The Fall 2023 Classical Swiss will begin August 29. One or more sections of 8 players players of similar rating will play 3 games. Time control will be G/60, d30. Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks: Come for the chess. Stay for the cheesesteaks. On Thursday, August 24 from 4-6 p.m., Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks is hosting casual chess at its one-of-a-kind shop at 187 18th Ave SW (in the small strip mall across the Frontage Road from the McDonald’s on 2nd St. SW). Stop in for casual chess and have fun! Rochester Mini-Chess Camp for Youth and Adults, Saturday, August 26, 2023, 9 AM – Noon at Mayo Clinic Harwick Building Cafeteria

Lead instructors: Jacob Arroyo and Dennis Mays. This camp is intended for novice to intermediate players of all ages.

Approximate Camp Schedule

  • 8:45 – 9:00 AM: Check in.
  • 9 AM – 9:30: Tactics!
  • 9:30 – 10:30: Intermediate participants will play one game (G/30 with notation).  Coaches will help them analyze their games afterwards. 
  • Novice participants will play 2 games (G/15)
  • 10:30 – 11:15: Deep analysis of games with a chess coach
  • 11:15  – 12:00: Opening tactics.

Wrap-up

Tuition: $25 + $5 for each additional family member. Payable onsite with cash or check made payable to Rochester Chess. Advanced registration is required.
