ROCHESTER CHESS JULY 2021 SLOW SWISS
Rochester Chess will hold a United States Chess Federation (USCF)-rated in person (OTB) 4-round swiss tournament in July. You can find out what a swiss tournament is here: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament). One game per week will be played at a slow time control, G/60+30. The first game will be on Tuesday, July 6. Each side has 60 minutes to make all of their moves and receives an additional 30 seconds after each move from move 1. A current membership in the USCF is required for registration and participation. You can join USCF or renew here: https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess. Membership in the Rochester Chess Club is not required at this time to participate. Up to 2 half point byes are available in rounds 1-3. Games start at 6:30 PM. Other times and dates can be arranged by the participants as long as they let me know. Entry fee: $5 (pay at the door or “donate” to Rochester Chess online). Rochester Chess will continue to meet weekly in-person on Tuesdays, 6 – 9 PM, in the South Cafeteria in the Mayo Clinic Superior Drive Support Facility, 3050 Superior Dr. NW, Rochester, MN 55905. The next meeting will be on June 22.

We are encouraging children to arrive at the club as close to 6 PM as possible so we can pair them against other younger chess players. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Park in the employee lot and enter through the main entrance on the southeast side of the building. Summon security by pressing the red intercom button. Tell security you are there for the chess club. They will unlock the door for you. Follow the signs to the south cafeteria. Text me at 507-254-6809 if you have any questions.
RESULTS OF THE 2021 EARLY SUMMER ONLINE SLOW SWISS
Congratulations to Michael Kern for winning the Online 2021 Early Summer Slow Swiss with a score of 3.5 – 0.5. The event was held over 4 weeks with one slow game per week. Michael gave up only one-half point by taking a bye in round 1. Michael was closely followed by the Georges Berg and Paulik who each had 3 points. Thanks to everyone for playing.
The current plan is to hold future tournaments in person (OTB) at Mayo Clinic Superior Drive Support Center on Tuesdays, 6 – 9 PM in the south cafeteria. See the next post for directions.
