2024 Winter USCF-Rated Slow Swiss, Starts on January 2. Happy New Year!
USCF-rated 2024 Winter Swiss of 3-4 rounds will begin on Tuesday, January 2. Rated games of G/60 + 30s increment will be played in person, one game per week on Tuesday evenings. Games begin at 6:30 PM. Alternative dates and times can be negotiated if both players agree and they inform me ahead of time. Forfeit time is 7:00 PM. Register before noon on Monday, January 1 to be paired in the first round. Half-point byes are permitted in any round.
Site: Mayo Clinic Harwick Building, South Cafeteria, 201 3rd Avenue SW, Rochester, MN. Park for free on the street after 5 PM weekdays/all day on weekends or in a nearby parking ramp.

National Master Matt Jensen (Smarterchess) will lead an interactive discussion on middle game planning on Tuesday, December 19 starting at 7:00 PM. Casual chess will be featured from 6-9 PM.
RESULTS OF THE 2023 ROCHESTER SCHOLASTIC HOLIDAY CHESS TOURNAMENT.
Forty-four students competed in the 2023 Rochester Scholastic Holiday Tournament on December 16 in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building. Sixteen students were participating in their first ever USCF-rated event. Thanks to the numerous volunteers and Mayo Clinic for helping make the tournament a success. An informal poll among the participants indicated that they were in favor of another tournament next month. The event could be used as a qualifier for the RASCL Junior Varsity Swiss which will be held on Saturday, February 24 at Lourdes High School. Stay tuned for details.
