Congratulations to John Bitz for winning the Summer Classical Swiss with a perfect 4-0 score! George Paulik, Anthony Szarka, and Ethan Kaske tied for 2 – 4 places with scores of 3-1. The Fall 2023 Classical Swiss will begin August 29. One or more sections of 8 players players of similar rating will play 3 games. Time control will be G/60, d30. Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks: Come for the chess. Stay for the cheesesteaks. On Thursday, August 24 from 4-6 p.m., Jersey Jo’s Philly Cheesesteaks is hosting casual chess at its one-of-a-kind shop at 187 18th Ave SW (in the small strip mall across the Frontage Road from the McDonald’s on 2nd St. SW). Stop in for casual chess and have fun! Rochester Mini-Chess Camp for Youth and Adults, Saturday, August 26, 2023, 9 AM – Noon at Mayo Clinic Harwick Building Cafeteria

Lead instructors: Jacob Arroyo and Dennis Mays. This camp is intended for novice to intermediate players of all ages.

Approximate Camp Schedule

  • 8:45 – 9:00 AM: Check in.
  • 9 AM – 9:30: Tactics!
  • 9:30 – 10:30: Intermediate participants will play one game (G/30 with notation).  Coaches will help them analyze their games afterwards. 
  • Novice participants will play 2 games (G/15)
  • 10:30 – 11:15: Deep analysis of games with a chess coach
  • 11:15  – 12:00: Opening tactics.

Wrap-up

Tuition: $25 + $5 for each additional family member. Payable onsite with cash or check made payable to Rochester Chess. Advanced registration is required.
