FREE MSCA SCHOLASTIC WARMUP SWISS ON SATURDAY, APRIL 3, 2021
Rochester Chess is holding a scholastic swiss on Saturday, April 3 starting at 10 AM on Lichess.org. The tournament will simulate playing conditions in the MSCA Scholastic Chess Championship. You do not have to play in the MSCA tournament to participate in this tournament.
The tournament is for scholastic players only (K12). It is a 4-round Swiss using an external camera showing your playing area and computer monitor. This setup is required for the MSCA Scholastic Championship which will be held on April 11, 12, 2021. Click here for directions on how to set up your Zoom call: Zoom setup for playing
MSCA SCHOLASTIC WARMUP SWISS
Saturday, April 3, 2021, 10:00 AM to approximately 2:30 PM online on Lichess.org and Zoom. The tournament is open to all scholastic players (K12). Four rounds of Game 15+10 in a Swiss Style format. Pre registration is required on Lichess (by noon on Friday, April 2, see directions below).
Check in with the tournament director by 10 AM on Zoom to confirm your participation.

1. Log on Lichess.org with your username and password (or create an account www.lichess.org ).
2. On the Lichess home page hover over “community” at the top of the page
3. Click on “teams” then click on “all teams”; type “Rochester Chess” in the search box
4. For those who are not already members of Rochester Chess, click on “Rochester Chess” in the search list and click on “Join” team.
5. Then go to the home page and hover over “play” at the top of the page. Click on “Swiss Tournaments”
6. Click on “MSCA SCHOLASTIC WARMUP” in the list of tournaments. Currently it is at the top of the list of upcoming tournaments. Click on the tournament and hit the join button.

Winter Slow results, lots of chess coming up!
The results of the 2020 Winter Slow Swiss have been posted. Congratulations to the winners Henry Lange and Isaac Sellon who both finished with 3.5 out of 4 points. Jesse Buss and Bob Frisby tied for 3rd place with 3 points each. http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?202001282632-16346927
The next club meeting on February 4 will feature casual chess and game analysis. Please bring in a game to share with the club members.
This month we will try something new. USCF-rated G/15; d5 in 6-player sections according to rating on February 18. Let me know if you want to join the tournament. The Rochester Amateur Championship for Youth and Adults will be on Saturday, February 22 at RCTC! Our (possibly permanent) new site for club meetings will be in the Mayo Clinic Support Center South Cafeteria, 3050 Superior Dr. NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Park in the employee lot. Enter the building through the south employee entrance. Press the red intercom button and tell Mayo security you are there for chess. Follow the signs to the south cafeteria. Saturday, December 14, 10 AM – 5 PM in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Cafeteria
Mark your calendars for the Rochester Winter Scholastic Chess Tournament at Mayo Clinic on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Entry is free! Rochester Chess, an educational nonprofit, is grateful to their sponsors who provided youth enrichment grants: Mayo Clinic Community Public Affairs, Rochester Area Foundation, and US Bank. The tournament has three sections, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Advanced section will be USCF-rated (www.USChess.org). Intermediate and Advanced players will be required to record their moves. All participants will play 4 games (no elimination). Participants may request up to two ½-point byes for rounds they cannot play in.
Time Control: Each player gets 30 minutes (+ 5 sec delay) to make all their moves.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and monitor the playing site. Please let us know if you can assist. Experienced players are encouraged to attend to help coach our developing players.
Instruction: Chess Masters Dexter Thompson and Matt Jensen will provide game analysis for players who record the moves of their game.
