SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CHESS COMMUNITY: PLAY IN THE 2023 ROCHESTER OPEN ON JULY 8 & 9!

Are you enjoying chess activities at the local Rochester chess club? If yes, we are encouraging you to support Rochester Chess by playing in the Rochester Open on July 8 and 9 in the Mayo Civic Center. It is our biggest event of the year which brings in chess players from around the area including, masters from Rochester and other communities. Last year, 121 players participated in the event.

There are plenty of prizes ($3,000 guaranteed) in the Open, U1900, U1500, and U1000 sections to make it worth your while. Club member George Paulik took home the $300 first prize in the U1900 section last year.

RESULTS OF QUICK/RAPID CHESS COMPETIONS

Sixteen players faced off in the Spring Quick/Rapid Reserve Section (G/15 + 10 sec increment) which was played on May 16 and 23. Congratulations to Nolan Schnaedter and Jayan Jayachandran for tying for first place. Nolan and Jayan drew their 4th round game and also their 5th round games against other opponents. Five participants played in their first-ever USCF-rated event. More and more players are coming out of the woodwork to play in OTB events. The tournament has been submitted to USCF for rating.

RESULTS OF RAPID/QUICK MINI-SWISSES ON MAY 16 AND MAY 23.

Ten players competed in the Premier Sections of the Rapid/Quick Mini Swisses (G/15 + 10 sec increment) on May 16 and 23. Justin Ricker and Daniel Garrett tied for first place in the event on May 16. The players drew their last round game. Justin confessed to stalemating Daniel in their last round game.

Michael Kern finished in sole first place in the second edition of the premier mini-swiss by defeating Michael Gilligan in the last round.

We wish local players Matt Jensen and Michael Gilligan good luck in the Chicago Open this weekend.

REMINDER TO REGISTER FOR THE SPRING RAPID WHICH BEGINS ON TUESDAY, MAY 16.

Rochester chess will be hosting a USCF-rated 2023 Spring Rapid on Tuesday, May 16. Participants will be divided into two or more-8 player sections based on rating.

The time control is G/15 + 10 sec increment

The site is the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building Cafeteria.
