Rochester Mini-Chess Camp for Youth, March 18, 2023, 9 AM – Noon at Mayo Clinic Harwick Building Cafeteria

Lead instructors: Jacob Arroyo and Dennis Mays. This camp is intended for novice to intermediate scholastic players.

Approximate Camp Schedule

  • 9 AM – 9:30 Tactics!
  • 9:30 – 10:30 Intermediate participants will play one game (G/30 with notation).  Coaches will help players analyze their games afterwards. Novice Participants will play 2 games (G/15)
  • 10:30 – 11:15 Analysis of games with a chess coach
  • 11:15 – 12:00 Opening tactics

Wrap-up

THIS WEEK IN ROCHESTER CHESS

Calculation Training Class: National Master Matt Jensen will be concluding his class on “Calculation Training – a Mini-Series” on Tuesday, January 31, 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building. This class is part IV in which Matt will discuss Intermediate Moves, Imagination, and Traps, three important concepts in calculation. Space is limited.

As always, attendees are welcome to play casual chess.

USCF-rated 2023 Winter Swiss: Remember to register for the USCF-rated 2023 Winter Swiss which will begin on February 7. Rated games of G/60 + 30s increment will be played in person, one game per week on Tuesday evenings. Games begin at 6:30 PM. Alternative dates and times can be negotiated if both players agree and they inform me ahead of time.
