Rochester Chess, Tuesday, September 28.

SWISS AND QUADS: The final round of the September 2021 Slow Swiss will be held on Tuesday, September 28. Isaac Sellon and Steve Lange both have 3-0 scores and will be playing against one another for first place. Games start at 6:30 PM. Alternative dates and times can be negotiated if both players agree and they inform me ahead of time. Spectators are welcome.

Master Matt Jensen and Master Thompson tied for first place in the top quad with 2.5 points each that included their hard-fought draw in the final round. Soren Wiedmann continued his winning streak by finishing with a perfect 3-0 score in the second quad. The prizes were $40 for first place in the quads.

Site: Mayo Clinic Harwick Building, South Cafeteria, 201 3rd Avenue SW, Rochester, MN. Park for free on the street after 5 PM or in a nearby parking ramp. Participants must be free of COVID symptoms and wear a mask. If you have not already done so, please get vaccinated for the safety of all.

Other attendees are invited to play in the casual quads.

POP-UP CHESS ON PEACE PLAZA: The final session of Pop-up Chess will be held on peace plaza, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, on September 28. Stop by anytime and play chess in the fresh air.

ROCHESTER CHESS AT THE FARMERS MARKET ON SEPTEMBER 11, 9 AM – NOON

Rochester Chess, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, will host a free chess exhibit at the Farmers Market on the fairgrounds on Saturday, September 11, 9 AM – noon. Children and adults are invited to play chess games and receive instruction from our team of experienced chess coaches. Chess sets and masks will be provided. The market is an opportunity to share your love of chess and pick up some fresh vegetables!

If you do not know how to play chess, we will teach you! We will be in the large grassy area near the music. No registration is required. Stop by anytime! Chess Today and Tonight

Rochester Chess will be hosting Pop-up Chess on Peace Plaza today, August 31, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Stop by anytime to play casual chess or receive instruction from an experienced chess master.

The club is meeting tonight from 6:00 – 8:30 PM in the Mayo Clinic Harwick Building, South Cafeteria, 201 3rd Avenue SW, Rochester, MN. Attendees must be free of COVID symptoms and wear a mask. Rounds 3 and 4 of the Novice/Improving Player tournament will be played. Games begin at 6:30 PM. In addition attendees are welcome to play casual chess.

Reminder: Register for the USCF-Rated Slow Tournament which will begin on September 7. Rated games of G/60 + 30 will be played in person once per week on Tuesday evenings starting on Tuesday, September 7. Games begin at 6:30  PM. Alternative dates and times can be negotiated if both players agree and they inform me ahead of time. Registration fee: $5 payable at the site or online at the Rochester Chess homepage through the PayPal donate button. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
