ROCHESTER CHESS IS MEETING TONIGHT, AUGUST 23.

A casual novice tournament will start at 6:15 PM. A chess coaching workshop will be held from 7 – 8 PM. Anyone interested in learning more about coaching and assisting with scholastic chess clubs is invited to attend. You do not have to be a strong chess player to help a coach run a scholastic chess club.

Casual quads (G/15 + 5s delay) will be played after the workshop.

If you have not done so already, please register for Master Milosevic’s free strategic chess course. The class will meet on Zoom once per week from 1:00-2:30 PM CDT on Saturdays beginning on August 27, 2022. We suggest that you purchase the above book on Amazon. Note that it is a new translation published in 2007 by Quality Chess. My System is a classic book that most serious chess players read at some point in their lives. 

Outline for classes:

  • Class 1: The Center and Development
  • Class 2: The Open File
  • Class 3: The 7th and 8th ranks

Homework after these classes: Illustrative games for the first three chapters

  • Class 4: The passed pawn

Homework: Endgames and games illustrating passed pawns

  • Class 5: Exchanging
  • Class 6: The pinned piece 

Homework: Games involving pins

  • Class 7 The elements of endgame strategy

                            Discovered Check

  • Class 8: The pawn chain

Homework: Games to illustrate pawn chains

CHESS CLUB WILL BE MEETING TOMORROW, AUGUST 9 AT 6 PM.

Coach Grant will be leading his free chess class. Other activities include casual chess and game analysis.
