RESULTS OF THE 2022 ROCHESTER SLOW SPRING SWISS ARE IN!

The 2022 Rochester Slow Spring Swiss was held in April and May with one slow game (G/60+30) per week (5 rounds total) on Tuesday evenings at the Rochester Chess Club. Tim Schimke continued his winning ways by finishing in first place with 4.5 points. Tim was nicked for a half-point in round 5 by runner up Michael Kern. Michael and Kevin Gaustad tied for 2nd and 3rd places with 4 points. The scholastic star player Isaac Sellon (7th grader at Friedell) and UW Madison Sophomore Charlie Johnson finished tied for 4th and 5th places with 3.5 points. Entry was free for this event. 100% for the entry fees were returned as prizes. 😉

NOVICE SECTION ONLY
Play in your first Chess Tournament! You’ve watched “Queen’s Gambit,” and now you’re ready to experience the thrill of the real thing. On Saturday, July 9th, the Rochester Chess Club will be hosting a Novice Section of the 2022 Rochester Open at the Mayo Civic Center. You will play four games (10am, 11:10am, 12:50pm, 2pm). We will provide chess sets, chess clocks, a basic intro to get you started, and help along the way. Cost for the Novice Section is $10 online (by July 2) or $20 onsite (by 9am). Register now at LINK. RATED SECTIONS ONLY
The Rochester Chess Open is back! And bigger than ever! On July 9-10, the Rochester Chess Club will be hosting the 2022 Rochester Open at the Mayo Civic Center. This is Rochester’s first two-day/weekend chess tournament since the 1958 U.S. Chess Open! This USCF-rated event will feature five rounds in four rated sections (and will also include one Saturday-only non-rated Novice Section). Cost for rated sections is $50 online by June 11 with progressive increases up to $100 for onsite registration. Free entry for Masters. $3,000 prize fund. Register now at LINK. SPRING SWISS STARTS ON APRIL 26!

On April 26 we will start with a USCF-rated Swiss of 4-5 rounds. Rated games of G/60 + 30 will be played in person, one game per week on Tuesday evenings. Games begin at 6:30 PM. Alternative dates and times can be negotiated if both players agree and they inform me ahead of time. Register before noon on Monday, April 25 to be paired in the first round. Half-point byes are permitted. Registration is free.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers: $40, 30, 20 in the Swiss. Site: Mayo Clinic Harwick Building, South Cafeteria, 201 3rd Avenue SW, Rochester, MN. Park for free on the street after 5 PM weekdays/all day on weekends or in a nearby parking ramp. Participants must be free of COVID symptoms. Regarding Mayo Clinic COVID regulations, attendees must wear a surgical, (K)N95, or other approved mask. These regulations are subject to change. If you have not already done so, please get vaccinated and boosted for the safety of all.
