Rochester Chess July Slower Tournament on Chess.com

Rochester Chess will be hosting an online slower tournament on Chess.com beginning on Tuesday, July 7. The format will be a 4-round Swiss at G/60 + 30. The majority of those surveyed preferred a longer time control. Cash prizes of $50, 30, and 10 will be awarded to the top 3 finishers.

The nominal round times are 6:30 PM on Tuesdays, but other times can be negotiated with approval of the TD. Forfeit time is 6:45 PM. Half-point byes are available in rounds 1 – 3. Results of the June 2020 Online Slow Tournament

Below are the preliminary final results of the June 2020 Online Slow Tournament (one game has yet to played). Congratulations to NM Matt Jensen for finishing with a perfect 4-0 score. Three players finished tied for second place with 2.5 points each: Tim Schimke, Jesse Buss, and Soren Wiedman. We promised astonishing prizes for the top finishers in this tournament. After polling the participants, it was decided that free entry in the next club tournament would be awarded to the top 4 finishers. 🙂

We are planning the next online tournament on Chess.com at a different time control. Stay tuned for details.

Master Milosevic Will Begin a New Series of Advanced Chess Classes on Saturday, June 20.

WFM Jovana Milosevic will begin a new series of strategic chess classes on Saturday, June 20 at noon CDT. The meetings will be on Zoom. The topic for the next class is the minority attack. Participants are encouraged to suggest additional topics on strategic chess. The classes will be recorded for viewing or reviewing at any time. Tuition is $10/class for 4 classes in this series or $30 for the entire series if paid in advance by PayPal or a check made payable to Rochester Chess, 2202 Ponderosa Dr SW, Rochester, MN, 55902. Class size is limited to 10, so register soon.
